چکیده

Context: Increased survival of patients with cancer raises the need to pay attention long-term side effects. Patients brain metastasis experienced cognition failure after whole-brain radiotherapy. This review aimed at concluding efficacy Memantine in preserving cognitive function by reducing toxicity radiotherapy for metastatic cancers. Evidence Acquisition: Published studies evaluating memantine protective effects during were searched scientific databases (e.g., Embase, PubMed, Cochrane database, Google Scholar, Scopus) using keywords including and Memantine. Results: A total 4 prospective clinical trials included review. Effects on tests evaluated these trials. significantly better Hopkins Verbal Learning Test-Revised (HVLT-R) delayed recognition months 6 was achieved RTOG 0614 NRG CC001. Longer time decline found arm trial statistically significant. not significant before 2 months. Conclusions: It seems reasonable consider radiation prevent due current results. improves (WBRT) without adding irreparable complications.

Spatial memory and changes in expression of genes of neurotrophic factors in adult rat brain after fractionated whole brain irradiation

Background: Ionizing radiation causes cognitive impairment in adult brain. However, the effects of various irradiation protocols with fractionated fixed total dose on hippocampal function have not yet been studied. Materials and Methods: Fractionated whole brain irradiation with a total dose of 36 Gy was performed according to the following protocols: 2Gy-18 fractions (2Gy*18), 4Gy-9 fraction (...

different fractionation in whole brain irradiation for multiple brain metastases

background : this study compared the efficacy of two commonly used fractionation schedules for palliative whole brain irradiation in patients with brain metastases, and assessed the association of the radiotherapy therapy oncology group (rtog) recursive partitioning analysis for brain metastases (rpa) to survival with each schedule. methods : patients with multiple (more than three) brain metas...

Whole brain radiotherapy for brain metastasis

Whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT) is a mainstay of treatment in patients with both identifiable brain metastases and prophylaxis for microscopic disease. The use of WBRT has decreased somewhat in recent years due to both advances in radiation technology, allowing for a more localized delivery of radiation, and growing concerns regarding the late toxicity profile associated with WBRT. This has pro...

Re-irradiation for metastatic brain tumors with whole-brain radiotherapy.

OBJECTIVE To determine whether second whole-brain irradiation is beneficial for patients previously treated with whole-brain irradiation. METHODS A retrospective analysis was done for 31 patients with brain metastases who had undergone re-irradiation. Initial whole-brain irradiation was performed with 30 Gy/10 fractions for 87% of these patients. Whole-brain re-irradiation was performed with ...
